Peruvian-American tenor Christopher Sierra is rapidly establishing himself as an artist of great sensitivity and versatility in repertoire ranging from Handel, Mozart, and Donizetti to Lieberman, Botti, and contemporary premieres. Acclaimed for his "great voice" and "charming" stage presence, Mr. Sierra has performed in numerous venues with companies throughout the metropolitan area including Bronx Opera, Regina Opera, Opera Company of Brooklyn, Long Island Opera, New York Lyric Opera, Amore Opera, Garden State Opera, Boheme Opera New Jersey, and Princeton Festival Opera, among others.
Recently, Mr. Sierra was an Apprentice Artist with the Santa Fe Opera where he was featured in scenes as Lindoro in Rossini's L'italiana in Algeri and Bardolfo in Verdi's Falstaff. Other engagements this season included performing the role of Tony Candolino in Terrance McNally's Tony Award winning play, Master Class, with the Women's Theater Company in Parsippany, NJ.
In previous seasons Mr. Sierra has appeared as the title role in The Little Sweep, Acis in Acis and Galatea, Jupiter in Semele, Biondello in L'oca del Cairo, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Mercury in The Judgement of Paris, Antonio in La Gazza Ladra, Normanno in Lucia di Lammermoor, Don Alvaro in I due Figaro, Le Remendado in Carmen, and various other roles.
Currently, Mr. Sierra is an artist-in-residence with Salon 33 in Princeton, NJ, where he is an active recitalist. Additionally, his concert experience includes solo roles with orchestra in works such as Britten's Les Illuminations Op.18, Bach's Christmas Oratorio, Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, and Handel's L'Allegro ed il Penseroso.
Mr. Sierra is an alumnus of Opera New Jersey's Victoria J. Mastrobuono Emerging Artist Program, Dicapo Opera Theatre's Resident Artist Program, and CoOPERAtive's Young Artist Program. He received a master of education degree in music education from Teachers College of Columbia University, a master of music degree in voice performance from Manhattan School of Music, and bachelor degrees in both music education and voice performance from Westminster Choir College.
